Address: Plac Teatralny 1 , 00-950 Warszawa

One of the most important Polish cultural institutions located at Teatralny Square in Warsaw. It houses the National Opera, the Theater Museum and three stages of the National Theater. It has the largest opera stage in the world, 36.5 m wide and 34.4 m high. The first-class theater room has 1841 seats. The Grand Theater was erected in the years 1825-1833. The design was made by Italian architect Antonio Corazzi. Originally in its place there was a shopping and service complex called "Marywil", named after Queen Marysieńka Sobieska. The official opening of the Grand Theater stage inaugurated the opera performance of Rossini's Barber of Seville in 1833. In 1939, the theater was bombed and burned during the siege of Warsaw. In the years 1945–1965 its reconstruction began and the building was significantly expanded according to the design of Bohdan Pniewski. The arrangement of rooms was changed, cloakrooms and a foyer were located in the auditorium, while the stage was added in the former square adjacent to the theater. The facilities have also been significantly expanded. The new facility opened on November 19, 1965. The inauguration was graced by the performance of Stanisław Moniuszko's "The Haunted Manor". A Theater Museum was also created, which exhibited the collected works of art and documents depicting the history of Polish dramatic, opera and ballet theater. The Grand Theater and National Opera in Warsaw performs operas, ballets and theater performances. Commercial events such as galas on the occasion of national ceremonies and concerts of famous personalities from the world of classical music are also held there. Currently, the institution's general director is Waldemar Dąbrowski, the artistic director Mariusz Treliński, and the ballet director Krzysztof Pastor.
