The church was built at the Bernardine monastery, currently it is the main center of academic ministry in Warsaw. The monastery was built in 1454 in the Gothic style. The walls of the church were built as a half-timbered wall using brick. According to the principle adopted by the order, the monastery complex was established outside the city walls, at the outlet of one of the main routes leaving the city. It was the first stone church, dedicated on December 4, 1454 by the bishop of Poznań, Andrzej of Bnin Opaliński. The church was burned down in 1944. The roof, walls and belfry were destroyed during the war. The renovation took place in the years 1946–1962. During the Nazi occupation and in the first post-war years, the authorities of the Polish Underground State, using the custom of numerous visits to the Holy Sepulcher by the inhabitants of Warsaw, chose the church of St. Anna is a place of patriotic and religious presentations that give Poles a special encouragement. Currently, the temple is called the Central Center for Academic Ministry - since 1928, it has served as an academic church, due to its location in close proximity to four of Warsaw's major universities: Warsaw University, Academy of Arts Piękna, the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music and the Theater Academy.
