The oldest secular monument of Warsaw located on the Castle Square in Warsaw, dedicated to King Sigismund III Vasa. The column was created in 1644 thanks to King Władysław IV, who decided to commemorate his father in this way. The monument is 22 meters high, at the very top there is a statue of King Sigismund III Vasa, cast in bronze and gilded, 2.75 meters high. It was designed by architect Constantino Tencalia, and the statue was made by Italian sculptor Clemente Molli. King Sigismund III was presented on the monument as a defender of faith - the figure holds the sword in one hand and the cross in the other. During World War II, the monument was destroyed by a missile from a Nazi tank gun. In 1949 the column was rebuilt.
