A museum facility presenting collections dedicated to the history of the military and the history of Poland, whose task is also to study objects and create historical scientific studies. The institution was established on April 22, 1920, pursuant to the normative act of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Marshal of Poland Józef Piłsudski. Colonel Bronisław Gembarzewski was the first director and organizer of the museum work. Currently, the museum's collection includes over 250,000 exhibits. Their number is constantly growing through new purchases and numerous gifts. The copies are presented in several rooms at permanent and temporary exhibitions. The museum has its own library, there is also an iconographic archive, and excellent facilities for scientific and conservation work in the form of specialized laboratories for the conservation of monuments, metal, wood, painting and textiles. The staff and rich collection of collections mean that the museum is active as an important information and consultation center. The institution cooperates with members of the Association of Old Arms and Color Lovers, and also maintains regular contacts with related institutions in the country and abroad. The institution is also a member of the Polish National Committee of the International Council of Museums ICOM operating under the auspices of UNESCO.
