The collection of the National Museum in Warsaw has over 800,000 exhibits - works of Polish and world art. They come from all eras, from antiquity to the present day, and include painting, sculpture, drawings, engravings, photographs, numismatic items, as well as applied art items. The unique items are: Faras Gallery (the largest collection of Nubian art and culture monuments from the early Christian period in Europe), Medieval Art Gallery (unique sculptures, table painting and goldsmithery from all regions historically related to Poland in the Middle Ages, supplemented with medieval works created in other regions Europe) and the largest Polish painting "Battle of Grunwald" by Jan Matejko (426 x 987 cm). A special place in the collection is occupied by recovered paintings looted from the National Museum in Warsaw during World War II: Aleksander Gierymski's "Oranger", Leon Wyczółkowski's "painter's workshop", Julian Fałat's "Nagonka on the hunt in the hunt" and Anna Bilinska's "Negro". They are currently undergoing conservation so that they can be presented to the public. The state-of-the-art LED lighting, which only few museums in the world can boast of, is the pride of the National Museum in Warsaw. LED spotlights allow you to adjust the light intensity to each image individually so as to bring out its values as best as possible. The headquarters of the National Museum is a modernist building standing in one of the busiest places in Warsaw - near the Poniatowski Bridge and de Gaulle roundabout. The courtyard of Professor Stanisław Lorentz with benches and deckchairs, a fountain and a cozy cafe Cafe Lorentz. (Professor Lorentz was the director of the National Museum in Warsaw in 1936-1982, very well-deserved in saving the most valuable works of art during World War II). It is worth knowing that on the other side of the building there is the Na Książęca park, picturesquely located on the Vistula embankment. Once they were gardens belonging to Prince Kazimierz Poniatowski - the oldest brother of King Stanisław August Poniatowski.
