The Museum of the History of Literature was founded in 1950, its activity began in 1952. The origin of the Museum dates back to 1948, when the exhibition on the 150th anniversary of the birth of Adam Mickiewicz was organized at the National Museum in Warsaw. Its curator was Aleksander Semkowicz, a bibliophile and author of works on Mickiewicz books. The aim and task of the Museum of Literature is a comprehensive interest in and protection of legacies and souvenirs related to Polish literature, its authors, as well as the broadly understood literary life in Poland in a territorial and historical sense. It is also a wide dissemination of knowledge about individual writers, literary life and Polish literature from the beginning of its existence to the present day.
