The construction of a stone castle began in 1624 in the style of early Baroque on the order of King Sigismund III Vasa under the direction of architect Matteo Castelli, and was completed during the reign of King Władysław IV. The assumption was to be an unofficial royal residence. During the Deluge, it was destroyed and rebuilt again. In the 2nd half In the 17th century, Stanisław Herakliusz Lubomirski became the owner of the palace. In 1717, at the order of King August II the Strong, the Piaseczyński Channel was built under the palace, 820 meters long. In 1766, the palace was bought by King Stanisław August Poniatowski, who rebuilt it considerably. In 1784, he was transferred by the king to the barracks of the Lithuanian Pedestrian Guard and because of this the palace was rebuilt again. From 1809 there was a military hospital in it. During World War II it was again destroyed. In 1954, the communist authorities decided to demolish the ruins, but after 1973 the palace was rebuilt. It currently houses the Center for Contemporary Art, the Cinema Lab and the Castle Museum and Military Hospital in Ujazdów.
