Address: ul. Strażacka 2 , 07-100 Węgrów
The first parish church in Węgrów founded in 1414 by Piotr Pilik of the Rogal coat of arms. The present basilica building was built in the Gothic style in the first half of the 16th century from the Kiszków foundation. In 1558, Anna of Radziwiłł Kiszczyna, a propagator and protector of Protestantism in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, took the church from Catholics, removed the priest and gave the newly created temple to the Calvinist congregation that she founded. In 1565, thanks to Jan Kiszka and Węgrów pastor Piotr from Goniądz, the church came under the rule of the Polish brothers' congregation. However, it returned back to the Reformed Protestants in 1592. The basilica in Węgrów is built on a rectangular plan, has three naves and is covered with a barrel-and-cross vault. The aisles are much narrower than the main one. The facade of the temple is typically Baroque, with a triangular gable crowned with a Latin cross and figures of the holy apostles Peter and Paul. On the sides of the facade are two characteristic Gothic towers remaining from the former fortified church. Inside the church there is a set of Baroque frescoes made in the spirit of the Counter-Reformation by Florentine painter Michelangelo Palloni from 1707-1708. In the presbytery, the magnificent scene of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is noteworthy.
