Located on an artificial island, surrounded by a moat, an early Renaissance magnate residence. The castle was built in the second half 15th century on the initiative of Stanisław Szydłowiecki, marshal of the royal court. The last reconstruction in the late Renaissance and Baroque style took place in 1619-1629, it was made by Albrecht Władysław Radziwiłł. Currently, the castle houses the Szydłowiec Culture Center - the Castle together with the Museum of Folk Musical Instruments (the museum was opened in 1975). It gathers over 2,000 exhibits with a magnificent collection of harmony, dulcimer and violin. The rarest of them include crank lira, gilt and Kalisz basses.
